Lee Group, NSDC to build major sugar plant in Taraba
The Lee Group and National Sugar Development Council have advanced plans to construct a major sugar facility in Taraba state as part of Nigeria’s drive toward domestic production self-reliance. Executive Secretary Kamar Bakrin, who accompanied Lee Group representatives to meet Governor Agbu Kefas, stated the location satisfied all technical and environmental standards while the investor demonstrated financial capacity and operational expertise through subsidiary GNAAL Sugar, with the council providing training, research and land acquisition support for the initiative.
Project Director Lam Wing Ki Wilkins outlined the multimillion-dollar investment proposal, emphasizing agricultural and industrial development benefits for local and national economies. Governor Kefas confirmed security conditions have stabilized to attract investment while identifying Kurmi, Lau and Ibi local government areas as suitable for large-scale cultivation and processing operations aligned with the state’s farming priorities.
