Lizzo, Atlantic face suit over Good Jeans track
A music publisher sued Lizzo and Atlantic Records for allegedly copying a 1970s song in her unreleased track about jeans. Jimmy Ginn represents a trust that controls Sam Dees’ composition Win or Lose and claims the rapper used instrumental and vocal elements without permission. The complaint states Lizzo’s representatives admitted similarities exist, but settlement discussions failed to resolve the dispute.
The lawsuit seeks all profits from the social media video that referenced actor Sydney Sweeney and her denim advertisement campaign. Lizzo faces a separate harassment trial scheduled to begin on Dec. 1 after former employees accused her touring company of workplace violations. Witnesses plan to describe discrimination and unsafe conditions for performers on the tour.
