Pharrell to open World Series with gospel set
Major League Baseball announced that Pharrell Williams will perform before the first World Series game on Friday, October 24. The musician will appear with his uncle Bishop Ezekiel and the 25-member gospel group Voices of Fire for a six-minute presentation before the opening pitch on Fox. Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins designed the pregame show to combine gospel and orchestral music with dramatic staging.
Collins previously produced Vatican performances and Super Bowl entertainment segments for artists such as Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar. The baseball league aims to expand its entertainment offerings similar to professional football programming. Williams recently supported community events at Atlantic Park, a new mixed-use development in his hometown of Virginia Beach.
