Abdul Awal Mintoo wins World Food Prize 2025
Abdul Awal Mintoo received the Top Agri-Food Pioneer award from the World Food Prize Foundation for his work building seed and livestock companies in Bangladesh. The Iowa-based organization selected Mintoo from candidates worldwide for advancing food security through his firms, Lal Teer Seed and Lal Teer Livestock Development. He established both enterprises under the Multimode Group umbrella starting in 1981, and also chairs National Bank.
The foundation honored recipients on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the State Capitol building in Des Moines as part of the annual Borlaug Dialogue. Mintoo told attendees that farmers need resources and training to escape poverty while supporting global food stability. Foundation President Mashal Husain said the 2025 honorees demonstrate commitment to creating sustainable food systems across nations and fields of study. A council of former government leaders and agricultural experts oversees the selection of individuals whose achievements improve food quality and availability.
