Malaysia, South Africa to boost ties in trade, defence
Malaysia and South Africa will expand their partnership across trade, defense, semiconductors and halal agriculture following talks between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday. The leaders met at Kompleks Seri Perdana to discuss deepening economic ties through BRICS membership and bilateral cooperation.
Anwar said Malaysia aims to diversify its trading relationships beyond conventional partners while maintaining focus on intra-ASEAN commerce and Asian markets. South Africa’s economic strength in defense, agriculture and related sectors makes the nation a strategic partner for Malaysian interests across the continent.
Both governments are committed to collaboration in education and scientific research through their universities and institutions. Ministers and administrators from each country will oversee the implementation of the expanded cooperation framework.
