USAA offers $300M in relief amid ongoing shutdown
USAA delivered more than $300 million in financial assistance to over 90,000 military and federal workers affected by the government shutdown that entered its third week. The association serves more than 14 million members and extended its support program through the next pay period with loans, payment flexibility and financial counseling.
The company provided approximately 82,000 loans totaling over $294 million to members who missed paychecks. USAA granted more than 11,100 consumer loan payment extensions worth $15 million and over 7,600 credit card payment extensions totaling $2.8 million. The association waived or refunded overdraft fees for nearly 33,000 deposit accounts.
Michael Moran, president of USAA Federal Savings Bank, said the organization functions as a partner ready to support members through the shutdown. The company donated $1 million for Hurricane Helene recovery in 2024 and pledged $500,000 for Texas flood relief in July. USAA recommends members prioritize essential expenses such as groceries, mortgage payments and utilities while managing resources.
