Maruti sells 3 crore cars—roads, air get dirtier
India’s largest automobile manufacturer reached 30 million domestic vehicle deliveries, marking accelerated growth as successive milestones arrived faster than previous benchmarks. Maruti Suzuki India disclosed on Wednesday that reaching 10 million sales required 28 years and two months, while the second 10 million took seven years and five months. The company achieved its third 10 million units in six years and four months.
The Alto led all models with more than 4.7 million units delivered since the brand began operations with its first Maruti 800 delivery during December 1983. Wagon R placed second at approximately 3.4 million vehicles, followed by Swift with above 3.2 million. Compact sport utility vehicles such as Brezza and Fronx joined the manufacturer’s 10 best-selling products. Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi said the achievement reflects customer confidence across the nation.
With ownership rates at roughly 33 automobiles per 1,000 residents, substantial expansion opportunities remain available throughout India. The automaker currently markets more than 170 variants spanning 19 different models and maintains its commitment toward providing affordable transportation options for families while pursuing innovation and environmental responsibility goals.
