Microsoft Azure outage cripples Xbox, Minecraft
Microsoft Azure experienced service disruptions on Thursday, preventing users from downloading Xbox games and accessing Minecraft servers. The cloud computing platform experienced connectivity failures starting at 16:00 UTC after technicians made an unintended configuration change to Azure Front Door services.
Obsidian Entertainment warned customers that The Outer Worlds 2 was no longer available for purchase or installation on Xbox or personal computers. The developer said the problems affected all Xbox titles and online games. Down Detector recorded numerous complaints from Minecraft players unable to connect to multiplayer sessions.
Microsoft did not provide a timeline for restoring normal operations. The failure followed a separate Amazon Web Services breakdown last week that disrupted PlayStation Network, Fortnite and Roblox for several hours before engineers resolved the technical issues.
