Microsoft drags BSOD corpses through RAM hell
Microsoft will launch a proactive memory diagnostic tool for Windows 11 that automatically runs after unexpected system crashes. The feature is available in the Insider Preview Build 26220.6982 in the Dev Channel, but it will not support Arm64 systems. The scan operates at startup and takes about five minutes to complete before Windows loads.
The diagnostic tool examines whether Blue Screen of Death errors stem from RAM problems such as unstable memory, defective modules, mismatched components, or faulty overclocking settings. Microsoft will initially treat all system crashes as potentially memory-related and gather data to identify genuine memory corruption cases. The company aims to refine the tool’s accuracy over time through this data collection process.
Windows has offered manual memory diagnostics for years across multiple versions. Users can access the existing Windows Memory Diagnostics tool to test their system RAM immediately or schedule a scan for the next restart. The established tool provides two paths for checking memory-related problems that may cause sudden system failures.
