Microsoft revives Windows Recall with safeguards
Microsoft has reintroduced its Windows Recall feature for Copilot+ PCs with enhanced security measures following significant privacy concerns. The AI tool, which takes periodic screenshots of user activity to create a searchable history, will now remain deactivated by default. The company stated that access requires Windows Hello biometric authentication and that all captured data is encrypted and stored solely on the local device.
The updated version provides users with granular controls, allowing them to block specific applications and websites from being recorded. Microsoft emphasized that the system is designed to avoid capturing sensitive information like passwords. This relaunch represents a substantial shift in the feature’s deployment, directly addressing earlier criticisms about its potential security vulnerabilities.
