India smashes health record trifecta
India set three Guinness World Records under the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday, underscoring the nation’s focus on preventive care and women’s health. The campaign recorded over 3.21 crore sign-ups for a healthcare platform in one month, more than 9.94 lakh online registrations for breast cancer screening in a week, and over 1.25 lakh online vital signs screenings at the state level in seven days.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from September 17 to October 2, the initiative aligned with Poshan Maah and aimed to improve the health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls, and children. It promoted early disease detection and broader access to health services, reaching every district through more than 19.7 lakh health camps and engaging over 11 crore people.
Over 20 ministries, medical colleges, private groups, elected representatives, and officials joined the effort. Community involvement included 5 lakh Panchayati Raj members, 1.14 crore students, 94 lakh self-help group members, and others. The campaign delivered 1.78 crore hypertension checks, 1.73 crore diabetes tests, 69.5 lakh oral cancer screenings, 62.6 lakh antenatal visits, 1.43 crore vaccine doses, and 1.51 crore anemia tests. It also screened 85.9 lakh women for tuberculosis, 10.2 lakh for sickle cell disease, and held wellness sessions for over 2.14 crore people, while enrolling 2.68 lakh Nikshay Mitras to support TB elimination.
