MTN MoMo chief eyes credit access push in Ghana
MTN Mobile Money Limited plans to launch credit programs for Ghana’s economy. Chief Executive Officer Shaibu Haruna said most people must save substantial amounts before buying goods, thereby limiting their financial flexibility. He spoke at a media session on Wednesday, October 22.
The company will introduce buy now, pay later options and overdraft services to ease upfront payment requirements. Haruna said the goal is to expand access to credit for consumers and businesses. MTN MoMo will work with banks and regulators to build stronger lending systems for small and medium enterprises.
The executive said partnerships with financial institutions and the Bank of Ghana aim to create safer credit opportunities. He believes these collaborations will benefit both customers and merchants. A new digital lending license from the central bank takes effect on November 10 and will support broader financial inclusion efforts across the country.
