MTN Nigeria reports data surge
MTN Nigeria has announced that its active data subscriber base has reached 51.1 million users, representing a growth of 12.8 percent and positioning the telecommunications company as a key player in the Federal Government’s broadband expansion objectives. The operator attributes this expansion to its leadership in deploying 4G and 5G networks, having achieved more than 82 percent coverage in 4G technology and bringing 5G connectivity to approximately 15 million people. Capital expenditure excluding leases surged by 248 percent to N757.4 billion, directed toward capacity improvements and fiber-to-the-home infrastructure development.
The company reported a profit after tax of N750.2 billion and has allocated over N32.23 billion through its Foundation to support youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and development initiatives. Data traffic increased by 36.3 percent year-over-year, with individual subscriber usage climbing to 13.2 gigabytes monthly. The home broadband segment expanded to 4 million customers.
MTN Nigeria is also rehabilitating the 110-kilometer Enugu-Onitsha Expressway under the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit program, with the project half completed, and has contributed more than N6.9 trillion in taxes.
