Namibia set to exit FATF grey list by May 2026
Namibia will likely exit an international financial watchdog’s monitoring program by May 2026 after resolving most issues with its systems for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing. The country addressed 11 of 13 concerns raised by the Financial Action Task Force since officials added the southern African nation to a watch list in February 2024.
The Financial Intelligence Centre said global regulators praised government leaders for moving quickly to strengthen enforcement procedures. Two issues remain partially resolved: the need for more criminal investigations into suspicious financial activity and for better tracking of funds linked to extremist groups.
Task force members adopted the country’s third assessment report on Friday, October 24, at meetings held in Paris. Cabinet officials coordinated efforts across government agencies to meet international standards ahead of scheduled deadlines. The center submitted documentation to regional reviewers in July before full membership voted to recognize the progress.
