NASENI, PICTT award N229 million to 14 women engineers
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, working alongside the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, distributed 229 million naira among 14 female engineers through the Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her program. Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu explained that gender diversity strengthens technological advancement by introducing varied perspectives into product development and manufacturing processes, with this year’s recipients selected from 9,925 submitted proposals spanning agriculture, renewable power, healthcare, transportation, cybersecurity and environmental protection.
The 2025 iteration expanded mentorship activities to over 150 secondary school students across Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory, providing fabrication materials and training camps compared to 30 participants in the capital during 2024. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi, emphasized legislative support for domestic production and female participation in science fields, while Minister of State for Finance Doris Udoka recognized alignment between the initiative and federal objectives for industrial growth and technological self-reliance.
