Malawi climbs towers to close digital gap
Malawi completed construction of mobile phone towers in four districts to bring wireless service to remote villages. The Universal Service Fund completed sites in Nkhotakota, Balaka, Dedza, and Ntcheu where residents lacked reliable cellular coverage.
The government agency identified locations for new towers to extend signals into areas that telecom companies had not reached. The project aims to connect rural communities to mobile networks and expand access to digital services.
Malawi’s communications regulator carried out the work with support from the information ministry and a public-private partnership office. The World Bank funded the construction through a six-year program to improve internet infrastructure across the country.
