Onne truck parks back e-call-up plan
Trucking operators at Onne Port in Rivers State have endorsed the Nigerian Ports Authority’s electronic call-up platform, anticipating relief from congestion that has plagued the eastern maritime corridor and slowed cargo movement. Godwin Ololuke, who chairs the Nigerian Port Consultative Council’s local chapter, confirmed that preparations involving truck park owners and system consultants have been finalized to regulate vehicle flow and enhance safety for nearby communities.
Driver Johnbull Igbikiowubo welcomed the initiative as overdue, while Olumide Ibitolu from Waterhouses Marine and Logistics Limited explained that current disruptions stem from ongoing truck registration activities. Stakeholders expect the digital system, already operational at Lagos facilities, to reduce demurrage expenses and strengthen the competitiveness of the eastern shipping hub.
