Orange, Kagame rally at MWC Kigali for Africa tech
Orange Middle East and Africa pledged support for technology growth across the continent at MWC Kigali 2025. Chief executive Yasser Shaker met President Paul Kagame and other leaders to discuss ways governments and companies can work together to expand internet access. The gathering focused on building networks that create jobs and improve living standards.
Shaker said Orange plans to fund infrastructure and train workers to strengthen digital systems. He called for fair rules that let businesses compete while making services available to more people. The company believes steady investment in equipment and talent will help communities benefit from new technology.
The Orange Social Venture Prize drew more than 3,000 entries from 18 nations. Winners used technology to address problems in schools, hospitals, and the banking industry. Shaker said the creativity and determination of African entrepreneurs will drive progress and prosperity.
