UDSM HEET project rewires Tanzania education
The University of Dar es Salaam has finished more than 80 percent of the work under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation Project. Vice Chancellor Prof. William A. L. Anangisye told the Tanzania Editors Forum that the effort has changed how universities teach students and work with businesses. The program built 21 academic structures at sites in Dar es Salaam, Lindi, Kagera, and Zanzibar to expand educational access across the country.
The institution created over 1,000 digital courses that reach more than 39,000 learners through a new 10Gbps network connection. Prof. Liberato Haule said the project upgraded classrooms and strengthened ties between academia and industry. Deodatus Balile, from the editors’ group, praised the university for demonstrating what focused investment can achieve in raising educational standards. The transformation positions Tanzania as a model for regional academic development.
