Over 100 firms win East Africa quality awards
More than 100 companies received recognition for manufacturing and service quality at an awards ceremony on Friday night. The East Africa Quality Brands Awards took place at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala and granted winners a Quality Mark to boost their competitiveness abroad. Patrick Nsubuga said the event celebrates businesses that drive regional economic growth through sustainable practices.
The awards began in 2000 to evaluate excellence across East Africa. Nsubuga explained that an online portal helps local manufacturers connect with distributors in foreign markets. Prudence Kasibante Ukkonika urged firms to buy from local suppliers to create jobs and increase tax revenue.
Winners of the fifth annual event were Bakama Property, Huawei Technologies, Kampala City Industries and Movit Products. Other recipients were Biva Organic, Eye Care, Gold Crown Beverages, Hariss International, Plascom, Aqua Industries, Simba Automobiles and Kumirizi Farm Co. Kennedy Omondi from Indomie said his firm earned the award through commitment to quality and affordable prices.
