ActionAid criticizes new fund for tropical forest conservation
Ahead of COP30, the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), a new international fund for tropical forest conservation, has faced criticism from ActionAid International. Teresa Anderson, Global Lead on Climate Justice, called the fund a “gamble with people’s lives,” warning that it risks prioritizing financial speculation over the needs of forest-dependent communities. She argued that public funds should directly support these communities instead of complex financial instruments that may not deliver. Anderson emphasized that true climate solutions must focus on justice, equity, and empowering those most affected by environmental harm.
