Oyetola starts port upgrades beyond Lagos
Nigeria will upgrade seaports beyond Lagos through a procurement process that began this year to balance maritime infrastructure development across the nation. Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola announced the expansion plans on Wednesday at a logistics conference in Lagos, while federal authorities advance a one billion dollar Lagos port modernization already approved by the government. The minister said paperless technology systems will reduce vessel processing times and eliminate corrupt practices at cargo facilities.
Security measures kept piracy attacks at zero for three consecutive years through the Deep Blue Project and related maritime protection programs. The government created a decade-long Blue Economy Strategy connecting shipping operations with fishing industries and coastal zone management under environmental standards. Revenue at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Nigeria jumped 242 percent between December 2021 and September 2025 as financial controls and audit procedures improved organizational management.
