Samsung debuts Galaxy XR headset with AI features
Samsung Electronics released its Galaxy XR headset on Wednesday, marking the company’s entry into extended reality technology powered by artificial intelligence. The device weighs 545 grams and features hand gesture controls that track all 10 fingers without external hardware.
The headset displays 3,552 by 3,840 pixels per eye through OLED screens, exceeding Apple Vision Pro specifications. Users operate the system via voice commands to Samsung’s Gemini assistant and pinch gestures between the thumb and forefinger. Circle to Search technology identifies physical objects through simple hand movements.
Samsung priced the Galaxy XR at 2.69 million won with 256 gigabytes of storage. Apple’s comparable Vision Pro model costs 4.99 million won, while Meta Quest 3 sells for 729,000 won. Early testing revealed pressure marks after 10 minutes of wear, raising concerns about comfort during extended sessions.
