Samsung unveils Galaxy XR headset in XR race with Apple
Samsung Electronics introduced its Galaxy XR headset on Wednesday after years of development with Google and Qualcomm. The device weighs 545 grams and lasts 2 hours per charge, competing with the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. The headset connects to Google services such as Maps and YouTube via the Android XR platform, powered by a Snapdragon processor.
The product costs 2.69 million won and became available in South Korea and the United States on Wednesday. Samsung plans to expand its extended reality offerings beyond headsets into smart glasses with fashion brands. The company aims to challenge Apple by offering lower prices and broader software compatibility with existing Android applications.
Google’s artificial intelligence enables users to control the interface through eye movement and gestures. Content partners like Adobe and sports leagues will provide exclusive programming for the platform. Samsung executives said the device represents their strategy to build an ecosystem connecting hardware with entertainment and productivity tools for consumers.
