Spotify adds text commands to AI DJ for Premium users
Spotify added text input on Wednesday to its artificial intelligence disc jockey for premium members who prefer typing over speaking. The company launched Spanish-language commands through DJ Livi after rolling out voice requests earlier this year. Users can submit genre preferences, artist selections, or activity themes, such as fall folk songs or Halloween party tracks.
The streaming service generates three personalized suggestions based on listening patterns and time of day. Spanish speakers request music through similar prompts, asking for 2000s reggaeton classics or relaxing songs. Premium subscribers access the feature by searching for DJ in the mobile application and tapping a button to enter requests.
Spotify integrated with ChatGPT last week to deliver recommendations through conversational queries. The platform counted 696 million monthly active listeners in the second quarter of 2025, with 276 million paying subscribers. The company reported a doubling of engagement with its AI DJ feature compared to the previous year, although exact figures were not disclosed.
