Social media is for business, not just gossip
Social media users readily share trivial content but criticize those who promote their businesses in group chats. People debate viral videos and forward memes without complaint, yet label entrepreneurial posts as inappropriate advertising. This contradiction reveals discomfort with others taking initiative and achieving success.
Ugandans misinterpret humility as silence about accomplishments and business ventures. False modesty fails to attract customers or build financial security. Entrepreneurs must communicate their services openly to potential clients who may need their products.
WhatsApp groups and social platforms provide free marketing opportunities to hundreds of contacts. Business owners should post about their work at least twice a week without apologizing for their ambition. Consistent visibility generates sales more effectively than staying quiet to avoid judgment.
The economy would benefit if Ugandans promoted services as freely as they share gossip. Boldness and consistent communication set struggling entrepreneurs apart from successful ones. Workers who remain invisible rarely receive recognition or financial rewards compared to those who actively market themselves.
