Stanbic, Pearl Bank tie Wendi-FlexiPay in Uganda
Pearl Bank Uganda and Stanbic Bank Uganda have joined forces to link their digital payment systems, Wendi and FlexiPay. The platforms together reach more than one million customers who use them for savings, loans, and online purchases. Users will benefit from reduced transaction costs and easier access to services across both networks.
The partnership was revealed at a Kampala briefing on Thursday. Officials from both banks emphasized how the collaboration advances Uganda’s goals for greater financial access and digital advancement. Mumba Kalifungwa of Stanbic Bank noted the merger eliminates barriers between platforms and supports growth initiatives for women, youth, and farmers. Julius Kakeeto of Pearl Bank highlighted Wendi’s role in government programs and its customer base exceeding one million users.
FlexiPay operates through more than 17,800 agents serving over 500,000 accounts. Wendi has facilitated Parish Development Model payments and enables Western Union money transfers. The integration allows customers to transfer funds and make payments between systems without previous limitations. Both institutions plan gradual implementation with joint marketing efforts and agent training in agricultural and commercial areas.
