AfroMobile, CUUL drive open knowledge in Kampala
The Consortium of Uganda University Libraries convened its fourth annual research conference at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala from October 16 through 17. Prof. Mary J. N. Okwakol from the National Council for Higher Education opened the gathering, while Ms. Iryna Kutchma delivered remarks about open access. The event focused on expanding knowledge-sharing across Africa.
AfroMobile representatives presented their work in digital content delivery. Abdallar Gulemye and Pearl Kitimbo explained how the platform increases communities’ access to information. Their sessions examined ways to reduce barriers to reliable content.
The conference marked 24 years of library network development and introduced a new academic journal for African research. Participants discussed artificial intelligence applications, rural library services, and preservation of local knowledge systems. Speakers addressed professional development needs and research implementation strategies.
The gathering brought together academics, librarians, and policy experts from multiple countries. Awards recognized outstanding contributions to knowledge accessibility. The consortium enters its 25th year with strengthened partnerships aimed at building more equitable information systems across the continent.
