Stanbic pushes green gospel in Zimbabwe
Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe held its Blue on Green Sustainability Forum to advance sustainability efforts in Zimbabwe and across Africa. The event brought together regulators, business leaders, and experts to address pressing environmental and social issues, including climate risk, energy transition, food security, and inclusion.
Chief executive Solomon Nyanhongo called the forum a major step for the bank, stressing that sustainability demands joint action and fresh ideas. He said the bank now treats sustainability as a core value, not just a strategy, which shapes how it invests and measures its success. Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe deputy governor Jesimen Chipika said 19 financial institutions have joined the central bank’s Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative, with one already certified. Standard Bank Group’s head of sustainability, Boitumelo Sethlatswe, added that the bank embeds sustainability in its operations and capital decisions. The forum also introduced Stanbic’s 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting its work toward an inclusive and resilient African future.
