Students urged to own their future at Mbale career fair
Students must take charge of their careers rather than wait for opportunities to arrive. Pamela Kabahesi from BrighterMonday Uganda told more than 2,000 young people at a job fair that success requires personal effort and discipline. The two-day event at the Islamic University in Mbale connected students with employers and taught workplace skills.
Rashid Kinsambwe from the university said the fair showed learners what companies expect from job candidates. Don Wanyama urged students to dream big but avoid shortcuts and maintain professional ethics. Moses Borasa said he learned that communication and technology skills matter as much as his law degree.
Ramla Namakambi discovered that attitude affects career prospects as much as grades do. She said students can create their careers through digital marketing or other skills while searching for formal employment. The event was organized by BrighterMonday Uganda with support from the Mastercard Foundation.
