Take-Two boss says AI can’t make GTA
Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick said artificial intelligence cannot produce quality Grand Theft Auto titles because the technology lacks creative ability. The executive addressed AI limitations at a conference in New York on Monday, Oct. 28.
Zelnick explained that predictive models trained with historical data cannot generate the complex game worlds Rockstar Games develops. Legal concerns about intellectual property protection also prevent AI systems from handling creative work independently. The technology produces derivative results rather than original content.
Video game publishers remain split about AI adoption despite these limitations. Electronic Arts requires staff to use artificial intelligence for programming and quality testing. Designers Masahiro Sakurai and Hideo Kojima view the tools as methods to sustain large productions and support human creativity.
