Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick sees shift to PC gaming
Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick has forecast that personal computers will become the dominant gaming platform over the next decade, marking a shift away from closed console systems despite their continued presence in home entertainment setups. The executive, whose company publishes Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K franchises, told CNBC that the industry is trending toward open platforms rather than proprietary ecosystems.
Zelnick noted that console and mobile gaming currently divide the market equally, though mobile experiences are expanding at a faster rate. His comments arrive as Valve introduced its Steam Machine hybrid device, which bridges personal computer and console functionality for television use.
The forecast suggests potential advantages for Take-Two, as personal computer platforms typically support higher-margin digital distribution and extended content monetization strategies that have proven successful with titles like Grand Theft Auto Online.
