Tax lawyer faces £8m libel claim over report
Tax attorney Dan Neidle faces an 8 million pound defamation lawsuit from barrister Setu Kamal over a February article criticizing a tax arrangement. Neidle wrote that participants in the Arka Wealth scheme would face substantial tax bills and called for its closure. Kamal denies claims that he promoted unethical practices and says the allegations damaged his professional standing.
Neidle asked a court to dismiss the case as a strategic lawsuit against public participation. His attorney estimates defense costs at 109,000 pounds through initial proceedings. Revenue authorities list Kamal as suspected of designing tax avoidance schemes, though Kamal suggests the timing raises questions about harassment. Neidle plans to keep the original report available but declined further comment.
