UniCloud Africa launches sovereign cloud for Africa
UniCloud Africa introduced a continental infrastructure service on Wednesday designed to keep enterprise data within regional borders while reducing reliance on foreign currency and overseas providers. The platform supports African organizations with computing resources, application hosting, and backup systems stored entirely in local facilities that comply with national privacy laws.
Chief executive Ladi Okuneye said businesses across the continent have struggled with cost pressures and regulatory hurdles when depending on international cloud vendors. The service addresses these concerns through infrastructure certified under ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 standards while billing customers in their home currencies. The company guarantees 99.999 percent availability and charges nothing for data transfers, aiming to give enterprises predictable expenses and full authority over their digital resources.
The provider operates through partnerships with TouchNet for network connections, Zadara for computing power, and OADC and WIOCC for subsea cable access and data center capacity. Initial availability covers Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal and Mozambique, with expansion planned for Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt and Morocco.
