Uttarakhand sees massive tourism surge under BJP
Uttarakhand attracted over 230 million visitors in three years under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s administration, according to state Tourism Department data. The influx has generated income for homestay operators, hotels, restaurants, transport businesses and women self-help groups across the region.
Tourism has expanded beyond major cities to reach remote mountain areas. More than 6,000 homestay operators benefit from the growth, and five million pilgrims traveled to Char Dham shrines this year alone. Some 4,300 horse and mule operators served trekkers on routes to Kedarnath and Yamunotri.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash boosted travel to the border region of Pithoragarh district. The state government promotes year-round travel and winter tourism. Officials invest in infrastructure, digital platforms and transportation networks to enhance visitor experiences.
Partnerships with international airlines and tour companies aim to increase foreign arrivals from Asia and Europe. Adventure activities such as rafting, trekking, bungee jumping and mountaineering attract domestic and international tourists to the Himalayan state.
