ZCDC celebrates 4.5 million fatality-free shifts
Zimbabwe’s state diamond producer has completed more than 4.5 million work shifts without a death since operations began and has not recorded a single lost-time injury since 2019. The Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company received gold and bronze honors at the National Social Security Authority workplace safety conference held recently in Victoria Falls.
The miner operates under a zero-harm policy with systems designed to reduce safety incidents across its facilities. Public relations manager Tsungirirai Dhambuza said investments in health and environmental protection have delivered measurable results for worker welfare at extraction and processing sites.
The company’s processing team placed second in the surface category at the Chamber of Mines first aid competition held in Shamva. Earlier regional contests also brought recognition for the organization’s safety.
Mining operations carry significant hazards that require quick emergency response capabilities. Proper safety protocols help prevent serious injuries and enable workers to respond effectively to accidents when they occur.
