Lizzo sued over unreleased Sydney Sweeney-referencing track
Lizzo faces legal action from GRC Trust over an unreleased song that references Sydney Sweeney. The track samples Win Or Lose (We Tried) by Sam Dees from the 1970s without proper licensing. GRC Trust claims the performer earned money from unauthorized use of the copyrighted material and seeks to block further distribution, plus financial damages.
The disputed song contains lyrics mentioning the actress and appeared briefly on social media in August before being removed. Lizzo posted the clip alongside footage of herself washing a car. Her representatives say the track was never commercially released or used to generate revenue, and no plans exist for official distribution.
The controversy stems from an American Eagle advertisement featuring Sweeney that sparked debate online. Lizzo previously resolved another lawsuit concerning writing credits for her chart-topping single Truth Hurts. GRC Trust attempted to settle the matter privately before filing the complaint.
