Zelda fans brace for new Switch 2 flop fears
Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio plans to launch Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment as an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025. The game arrives four years following the previous entry in the series. Set during the Imprisoning War that precedes events in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the musou-style adventure lets players control Princess Zelda as she battles with King Rauru and legendary Sages. Each character features distinct combat abilities, and a recent trailer displays combination attacks designed to eliminate large groups of enemies.
The 2020 predecessor, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, struggled with significant technical problems on the original Switch hardware. Performance dropped dramatically during cooperative play when multiple characters used effects-heavy attacks simultaneously, reducing both frame rates and enemy counts. Despite selling more than 3 million units by year’s end and breaking franchise records, persistent performance complaints affected player reception.
As a Switch 2 exclusive, Age of Imprisonment has an opportunity to avoid similar technical shortcomings through improved hardware capabilities. While no major release launches entirely bug-free, developers hope to prevent the severe performance problems that hampered the earlier game.
