AOC pushes pointless 1000Hz monitor for gamers
Monitor maker AOC plans to introduce six new AGON gaming displays in 2026, with one model claiming to reach 1000Hz refresh rates. The lineup features a 27-inch screen that switches between 500Hz at 1440p resolution and 1000Hz at 1080p. Other upcoming models include a 5K display running at 165Hz that can switch to 330Hz at lower resolution, plus a 4K monitor rated at 160Hz with artificial intelligence features. Additional options comprise 27-inch screens at 360Hz and 420Hz, along with a 24.1-inch model using TN panel technology at 400Hz.
Achieving 1000Hz at 1080p would surpass current capabilities, as existing panels top out at 720Hz when running at 720p resolution. The company likely employs techniques such as black frame insertion to generate additional refresh cycles. Experts question whether such extreme refresh rates provide meaningful benefits, as many argue that displays beyond 240Hz or 360Hz offer diminishing returns for most users. Reaching 1000 frames per second in games presents significant technical challenges. The new monitors will feature redesigned menus, customizable buttons and automatic visual adjustments based on game types.
