Zimbabwe tobacco firms eye new markets at China, Dubai expos
Zimbabwean tobacco producers, coordinated by the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, are presenting their products at the sixth China International Import Expo in Shanghai this week. The Chinese market purchases approximately thirty-three percent of Zimbabwe’s yearly tobacco harvest, making it the nation’s primary overseas buyer. Following the Shanghai event, industry representatives will travel to Dubai for the Middle East Tobacco exhibition scheduled for November tenth and eleventh.
Industry leaders view these international trade gatherings as vital opportunities to expand market reach amid increasing harvest volumes. Emmanuel Matsvaire, the board’s top executive, noted such events help producers connect with potential buyers while supporting domestic processing facility development. This dual-market approach reflects Zimbabwe’s agricultural export strategy, aiming to convert farming achievements into consistent foreign currency earnings and maintain the country’s significant role in worldwide tobacco commerce.
