10 armed Chinese nationals arrested in galamsey raid
Authorities arrested 10 armed Chinese citizens suspected of illegal mining at Abusa in the Ashanti Region after breaking up operations in the Oda River Forest Reserve. The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat worked with regional security officials to dismantle the network on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Officers detained nine people wearing khaki uniforms who claimed to work for National Security under someone they called Major Jabari. Searches recovered a pistol with ammunition, a fake pistol, a shotgun, cartridges and handcuffs from the suspects.
The task force also arrested people who offered officers 120,000 cedis to secure the release of detained miners. Investigators found wooden buildings and tents that miners used as bases deep in the forest.
Workers destroyed the structures and equipment to stop people from returning to the site. The Secretariat collaborated with the Ashanti Regional Security Council to carry out the intelligence operation.
