NAiMOS arrests 3 Chinese nationals in mining raid
Authorities detained three Chinese citizens and confiscated mining equipment after raiding an illegal operation near the Ankobrah River in the Western Region. The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat acted on location data that led officers to Hiawa Koofrom in Amenfi Central District around 9:10 a.m.
Officers seized two excavators, a pump-action gun with four cartridges, a Nissan Navara truck, and mobile phones from the site. Some miners fled into the nearby forest after motorcycle taxi drivers warned them, but the task force captured the three foreign nationals. Investigators found sand piles and paydirt that showed environmental damage along the riverbank.
Police hold the suspects as the investigation continues. The secretariat secured all confiscated items for examination and vowed to keep targeting mining networks that harm water sources and forests across Ghana.
