Dhaka, Chittagong bourses rise ahead of earnings season
Bangladesh stock exchanges gained ground for a second straight session on Thursday as traders monitored corporate earnings reports. The Dhaka Stock Exchange benchmark index climbed 55.2 points to close at 5,150 after buyers maintained control despite early hesitation. Trading volume jumped 32 percent to 4.7 billion taka from 3.6 billion taka the previous day.
Pharmaceutical companies led the activity with 17.2 percent of turnover, while the textile and banking sectors followed at 10.8 percent and 10.2 percent, respectively. Jute shares rose 5.1 percent and paper stocks advanced 4.3 percent as most industries posted gains. The Chittagong Stock Exchange also finished higher, with its main indexes rising 80.9 points and 124 points.
