Ghana joins Cape Town Agreement at IMO London
Ghana joined the 2012 Cape Town Agreement by submitting its accession document to the International Maritime Organisation. Director General Kamal-Deen Ali from the Ghana Maritime Authority delivered the instrument at the Marine Environment Protection Committee session in London. President Mahama signed the legal papers before Ali presented them to Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez.
The treaty establishes safety requirements for fishing boats measuring 24 meters and longer. Ghana will conduct inspections to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. The agreement strengthens the nation’s position in regional waters and international shipping zones while advancing environmental protection standards.
