NBR lets expats file tax returns via email OTP
Bangladesh tax authorities will send one-time passwords through email to citizens living overseas who want to file returns electronically. The National Board of Revenue said on Thursday that expatriates previously struggled to register because verification codes were sent only to mobile numbers linked to their biometric data in the country. Workers abroad can request email-based access by submitting passport details, identification numbers, visa documents, and photographs to the revenue office.
More than 850,000 people have already submitted tax forms through the digital system for the current fiscal year. The paperless method lets filers immediately download confirmation receipts and print certificates after completing their declarations. Officials asked all taxpayers to use the online platform before the Nov. 30 deadline for the 2025-2026 assessment period.
