Amazon rebrands Project Kuiper as Leo
Amazon has officially renamed its satellite internet initiative from Project Kuiper to Amazon Leo, signaling its evolution from an internal project to a full-scale commercial network. The new name references the low Earth orbit where the constellation operates. The company stated that this rebrand reflects the program’s maturity, with over 150 satellites already launched and a manufacturing line now in full operation.
The service aims to provide broadband connectivity to underserved communities globally. Several commercial partners, including JetBlue and DIRECTV Latin America, have committed to using the network once it becomes operational. Amazon plans to continue expanding the constellation through dozens of upcoming launches, with commercial service expected to begin after further capacity is added to orbit.
