Anne Aliker leads Standard Bank’s Africa unit
Ugandan investment banker Anne Aliker has been named Head of Africa Regions for Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets. The appointment, announced on October 30, reflects the bank’s focus on advancing African leadership and promoting homegrown talent into key strategic roles.
Aliker brings over 20 years of experience to the position, having previously served as Head of CIB Uganda, Head of Investment Banking for Africa and International Regions, and, most recently, Head of Client Coverage. In her new role, she will lead corporate and investment banking operations across 20 African markets, driving business development, client strategy, and regional integration to support sustainable growth.
Standard Bank CIB Chief Executive Luvuyo Masinda praised Aliker’s track record and strategic vision, calling her promotion a pivotal step in the bank’s transformation on the continent. Aliker said she is honored to represent Uganda and help deliver meaningful impact for clients across Africa.
Her appointment adds to a growing roster of Ugandans in top roles at Standard Bank, including Anne Juuko, Francis Karuhanga, Doreen Rwakatungu-Musiime, and Patrick Mweheire. Stanbic Bank Uganda executives hailed the move as a source of national pride and an inspiration for young professionals, especially women in finance. Headquartered in Johannesburg, Standard Bank Group holds over USD 170 billion in assets and plays a major role in financing Africa’s infrastructure, energy, and technology sectors.
