Apple plots slow OLED shift for Air lineup
Apple plans to add OLED screens to future MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad mini models, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The company will retain the current display technology in upcoming MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors before redesigning the screens for M6 variants expected in 2027.
The MacBook Air may receive OLED panels by 2028 at the earliest. A new iPad mini with OLED technology could arrive in spring 2026, priced from $599, a $100 increase over current models.
Apple is developing waterproof casings for iPads similar to the protection found in iPhones. The company tests vibration technology for speakers to enable formal water-resistance ratings across tablet lines.
Only iPhones and Apple Watches currently carry water resistance certifications. Engineers use gaskets and adhesives around speaker openings to maintain protection standards.
