Nadella says gaming now battles TikTok
Microsoft has become the largest gaming publisher by revenue after acquiring Activision Blizzard and plans to distribute titles across all platforms. Chief Executive Satya Nadella said short-form video applications pose the primary challenge to the gaming sector, not competing publishers.
The company will release games for consoles, personal computers, mobile devices and streaming services similar to its Office software strategy. Nadella stated innovation requires strong profit margins to fund development, while acknowledging console systems deliver unmatched performance for players.
Xbox Game Studios president Matt Booty told The New York Times that movies and social media platforms compete for user attention after announcing Halo titles will launch on PlayStation consoles. The comments follow widespread job cuts at Microsoft’s gaming divisions over two years.
Nadella received compensation totaling $96.5 million last year, a 22 percent increase from the previous period. The executive emphasized creating new interactive media formats alongside traditional gaming experiences to maintain consumer engagement across entertainment options.
