Bangladesh, Pakistan ink deal to boost halal trade
Bangladesh and Pakistan have signed an agreement to expand cooperation in halal-certified product trade. The two nations finalized the deal on Monday at the 9th Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission meeting in Dhaka.
The accord establishes a partnership between the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution and the Pakistan Halal Authority. Maqsura Noor, from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Industries, and Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider signed the document. The pact aims to strengthen standards, certification processes, and trade facilitation for halal goods.
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed led Bangladesh’s delegation, while Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, headed his country’s team. Both sides committed to strengthening economic ties and agreed to convene the 10th Joint Economic Commission meeting in Islamabad at a date to be determined.
